When literature and infographics meet: Writing Without Words

Posted by pixellogo on March 14, 2012 in Design Editorial

Stefanie Posavec is a London based graphic designer with a fascination of everything editorial. Her work varies from book covers, music album covers and editorial design, but what struck me the most are her infographics that dissect books from different authors. The amount of work put into this project is unbelievable since it translates all the elements of each book into a visual form, that is from words/sentences/chapters/etc. Her approach to this (actual) investigation comes in two different forms, one that she calls Literary Organism patterns and Sentence Drawings, both to showcase the di

This time they've gone in a different direction transforming their iconic notebooks into edited versions of contemporary figures in the architecture world. Posted by pixellogo on February 15, 2012 in Design & Style, Design Editorial, Industry News

Italian design studio La Tigre has some really impressive work in their portfolio. The project that caught my eye is the illustrations they designed for Formulabruta. The featured story is about Germany, and for that topic they came up with a series of illustrations that are beautiful with their simplicity and contemporary style. They used a restricted colour palette that is cleverly used with their geometric shapes and modified fraktur type. Check out these amazing illustrations and also the rest of their work.

Logos aren't just reserved for business or products. Logos also feature heavily in the music industry, and often a perfect visual representation of the music is displayed in the band's logo. Many musicians or bands get their logos designed professionally, so that they will leave as lasting and unforgettable an impact as a well-branded product does. The right font, the right colors, and the right imagery, and a band can be immortalized.

Posted by pixellogo on January 13, 2011 in Design Editorial

Website design trends have completely changed over the last ten years, particularly in the way that new sites are conceptualized and then built. Today's user is more adept and web savvy than ever, so old design concepts no longer apply. Designers are ditching the idea of bombarding users with complicated visuals and an overdone aesthetic, and are now choosing clean, efficient and simple designs with focused attention to the details. A lot of this is being accomplished by having a huge emphasis on font selection and typography. Designers are able to get more creative than ever now, because of the improvements to web fonts and the upcoming open web font format (WOFF) specifications.
