How logos would look like in a default font

Posted by pixellogo on April 5, 2012 in Uncategorized

I'm sure all rookie graphic designers have at some point forgotten to embed the correct font and end up with printable files that have been changed to the default font (*gasp). It's a fair mistake, everyone has to learn from them, right? Well this time the folks at UnderConsideration have created a flickr set with a default font version of famous logos keeping their original style. Here you can have a pick at what the results would have been if the designer forgot attaching the correct font! But I have to admit that some of them work while some of them are only cringe worthy.

Design Trends: Colours of 2011

Posted by pixellogo on March 21, 2012 in Uncategorized

It's always important to look back on what has been going on with the past design trends to understand in what direction we should move on. The folks at Colourlovers came up with this infographic that shows very simply what the most popular colours where used/chosen last year. To come up with these results (which they've done for 2 years now) they have an open voting site where you can choose your favourite colour for this year. Well, 2011's results are here and it's interesting to see what's been most popular: different hues of red/bright pink and more use of blue and teal. They also have oth

The best analogy you could ever find: cats as type

Posted by pixellogo on March 8, 2012 in Uncategorized

Seriously, we all know that all the internet is overpopulated with cat memes and while this overall fascination may remain a mystery for most of us, who are we kidding.. we love cats! So for us designers and cat lovers out there this cute meme was just too good so I had to share. Cats as types! I chuckled at the wingbats one and I need to adopt the Baskerville cat, so kudos to whoever came up with this, it's brilliant! Via

Cool design: Pantone tarts

Posted by pixellogo on March 7, 2012 in Uncategorized

French food designer Emilie de Griottes made a feature for french culinary magazine Fricote inspired in the Pantone colours. Each tart has a white glaze base with the correspondent Pantone number and of course the colour, the twist: they're edible! It's a fun project that combines very gracefully design and great food, a perfect mix for lots of people out there I bet. The ingredients used vary from tomatoes to bananas, candy and so on, and every piece combined with great photography is definitely a brilliantly executed piece. Best of all? You can get the recipes with the Fricote magazine! Wh

Vintage style: Reading Propaganda

Posted by pixellogo on March 2, 2012 in Uncategorized

After the Great Depression in 1929 President Roosevelt launched a program to revitalize the US which included a series of measures to employ citizens in different fields for the development of the country. The program was called WPA, Works Progress Administration, and among its politics was the cultural development of the country. This can be seen in their propaganda, which encouraged citizens to pick up on reading starting march (interestingly appropriate for the date!); it was called: "In March, Read the Books You've Always Meant to Read"  The WPA also hired a considerable amount of artists

Old School Work: 1960′s Life Science Book Covers

Posted by pixellogo on February 29, 2012 in Uncategorized

It's always important to look back of where graphic design comes from. In its early stages it must've been pretty awesome to experiment on different printing methods, composition styles and illustrations, and as we know there have been a lot of changes throughout the times. We've already seen some examples of vintage covers and I think they're a great example of the basis of editorial and graphic design. The 1960's Life Science book covers are a perfect demonstration of how the times changed, and how different the style was back then..and most importantly how that has influenced our current wo

Photography love: Maddie on Things

Posted by pixellogo on February 27, 2012 in Uncategorized

I might be going on a stretch here with this article, but I just had to share this finding. Theron Humphrey is a photographer that is currently travelling through 50 states in the US alongside his dog Maddie. His project Maddie on Things really made me smile and wish I had a dog to take on a trip (but I guess it would be hard to find another dog with that coolness, modelling skills and sense of balance) and as Humphrey puts it, it's a super serious project about dogs and physics.
