Logo design news: E! gets a makeover

Posted by pixellogo on May 3, 2012 in Industry News

After more than 20 years after its first airing, E! Entertainment Television is finally getting a makeover. The television channel is updating its look by a re-design of the brand and a fresh new tagline. Their current logo hadn't been modified since its launch, except for the 90's neon-versions before the iconic red and white one. As for the logo touch up: the letter E finally expands over the exclamation mark, being now the exclamation mark itself. The bright red has been replaced by a glossy shade of black, a more attractive look that matches the character of the station's TV shows.

Beautiful Branding: Sankara

Posted by pixellogo on April 17, 2012 in Design & Style

Sankara is a new five star luxury hotel in Nairobi that has a matching corporate identity. Glazer studio was in charge of the branding process and the results are simply beautiful. Taking African inspiration, they created a consistent brand that is also unique. Their intention for the visual projection of the hotel had to be approachable internationally, so taking the African influences literally wasn't their way to go. Instead they came up with a beautiful solution: from a zebra's lines pattern the brandmark was created. The symbol on its own is already beautiful, combining both elegance a

How logos would look like in a default font

Posted by pixellogo on April 5, 2012 in Uncategorized

I'm sure all rookie graphic designers have at some point forgotten to embed the correct font and end up with printable files that have been changed to the default font (*gasp). It's a fair mistake, everyone has to learn from them, right? Well this time the folks at UnderConsideration have created a flickr set with a default font version of famous logos keeping their original style. Here you can have a pick at what the results would have been if the designer forgot attaching the correct font! But I have to admit that some of them work while some of them are only cringe worthy.

Logo Design: How famous logos translate in other languages

Posted by pixellogo on April 5, 2012 in Design & Style

In the current times of globalization, famous brands have expanded their businesses overseas. This represents a particular challenge in countries that don't share the same language as the original and most of the time the logos need a translated version of them in the language they're being presented. It's very interesting to see how the icons we know and recognize by their colours and style have to adapt themselves to other completely different characters that might not be too similar to the romanic alphabet that we use in occident. So in the end it comes to the following: how can a brand ada

Graphic design humour: naked logos

Posted by pixellogo on March 30, 2012 in Graphic design reviews

Iconic brand logos are so installed in our visual language that sometimes just a colour or a font is the immediate recognizable element of a brand. We've already seen a version of honest logos that put into a funny manner the reality behind them. Well this time, myHOTjuly came up with a logo series that they have called naked logos, which has the same principal concept. It has a slightly different take on the honesty behind the brand, referring more to what we probably think or unconsciously know about the brand itself.

Identity Design: Anonymous

Posted by pixellogo on March 29, 2012 in Design & Style

If you're an active user of the internet, it's more than likely that you've heard about Anonymous and what they're all about. Danish graphic designer Mads Jakob Poulsen asked himself what would be the results if Anonymous would go corporate and came up with a visual identity mock-up for it. The first element to approach is the 'brand', and how the global-anonimity that gives life to this underground activist group can be translated into a simple logo. The logotype/mark is anti-authoritative and obviously completely illegible to stick with the roots of the anarchistic group. As for the fon

Logo Design: Unevolved Logos

Posted by pixellogo on March 26, 2012 in Design & Style

Graham Smith is a logo designer that is currently working in a very interesting project. It's called Unevolved Logos and it's a case study about famous logos reduced to a basic structure. Unevolving a logo to just a series of coloured circles, how many can still be recognised? Logo and brands that have strong and unique colours, as well as strong positional aspects, are usually recognisable when Unenvolved to just circles. He has a considerable amount of examples, and as some logos remain recognizable beyond their known image, some of them are practically torn apart to un-recognition. How ma
